On the Petals web site you can find multimedia files online, read about Petals CDs, artists and events and order your CDs or CD-rom.
Many important artistic projects can't reach their audiences today through the traditional distribution channels. Commercial record companies withdraw items from the market after a very short time and many CDs don't even get made, because they are too difficult to promote through the traditional channels.
Since it has become possible to produce CDs independently and to distribute them through the internet Petals takes advantage of this by producing CDs and providing people around the world immediate access to them through its web site. The production costs of these CDs will be kept as modest as possible in order to keep them affordable to all.
Petals draws on the imagination of its artists and offers exciting and personal programmes otherwise unavailable. Since Petals is a non-profit organisation, it concentrates on projects that do not attract commercial companies.
Petals was founded by Kaija Saariaho, Jean-Baptiste Barrière, Anssi Karttunen, and Muriel von Braun in Helsinki (Finland) in 1998.
