The music of Maa (Earth, in finnish) was originally composed by Kaija Saariaho for a ballet choreographed by Carolyn Carlson for the Finnish National Ballet and premiered at Helsinki’s old Opera house in 1991.

This new version, choreographed by Luca Veggeti, with sculptures/puppets conceived by Moe Yoshida - including a special screen made with bamboos -, involves also a video part, based on materials recorded during rehearsals at the Westbeth Dance Studio in New York (Martha Graham Dance Company’s studios), and of live video materials captured on stage during performance by cameras, mixed and processed in real time.
